For iPod owners and the nostalgic...

That's me way back in 1987 (yes, I'm much older than you now, but I was a kid then) with a Lasonic TRC-931... I used to carry that box everywhere in my immediate neighborhood. It didn't matter if it was 100 degrees outside or snow on the ground, I'd rock the block with the hottest in Hip-Hop at that time: Kool G. Rap & DJ Polo, Eric B. & Rakim, Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions... Yo, you couldn't tell me shit!

Now, about 21 years later, Lasonic has brought out the TRC-931's successor, the i931. The "i" denotes the fact that the new box is iPod compatible - sorry, cassette heads! Put your iPod in, crank the volume up to 34 and hit the streets the way cats like me used to do back in the day... before the sad reality kicks in that it's 2008 when you get jacked at gunpoint for your box! :(

I'd get into the this and that of the i931, but you can check out my man pepino from stereo2go.com's i931 in action!

^ How many people do you recognize in that clip?

OH WOW, first time seeing this beautiful box. My mouth dropped, no exaggeration. When I read that you place your iPod into it, I wasn't expecting the i931 to STILL keep that boombox look. For that, I dig it. I bet they're on the pricey side, but yo... I'd definitely purchase one.

I've heard many words used to describe the i931 and "beautiful" was never one of 'em. Glad to know that you like it!

The i931 has a street price of $150... I paid $160 and some change for mine (after tax) which ain't bad at all considering that in 1986/1987, I... uh, actually, my mother... paid $125 for the box you see in that pic.

Anyway, if you can swing the price, I highly recommend copping one!

I saw on the LaSonic site, that they're selling them in the $170 price range.

I'll probably purchase one, and then I'll have to get my ass an iPod. Hahah.
